The advent of digital technology offers unprecedented opportunities to rethink the planning, governance and promotion of territories. Editorialization and digital territorial marketing help to forge distinctive identities for cities, while urban sociability technologies and digital mapping facilitate a better understanding of and interaction with urban space.

These developments pave the way for hybrid developments and a renewed valorization of territories, stimulating creativity and innovation through creative tourism and other initiatives.

The history of cities is deeply marked by technological developments, and the digital era intensifies this dynamic by transforming socio-cultural, socio-economic and socio-political practices. The HyperUrbain conferences focus on these transformations, offering a platform for scientific and technological reflection on the future configuration of cities. These multidisciplinary meetings attract a variety of actors, ranging from administrators to artists and from economists to urban planners, all united by a common interest in the post-digital future of urban spaces.

The concept of HyperUrbain explores the territorial mutations induced by digital technologies. It is an approach that transcends traditional disciplines to integrate architectural, artistic, communicational, and many other perspectives. This holistic vision is crucial to understand and respond to the complex challenges posed by the digitalization of urban environments.

At the same time, the integration of digital devices into public policies has facilitated the emergence of a creative economy, linking the arts, sciences, technologies and industry. This economy is not limited to cultural industries; it extends to development and land use policies. The actions implemented, whether communicational, organizational or technological, aim to reduce inequalities and encourage citizen engagement through intermediation platforms.

As for the “Data Cities” concept, it illustrates this new era well. Inspired by Charles Jencks’ ideas on postmodernism, this concept proposes a break with traditional urban practices, integrating data science to enrich the urban imagination. Cities become places of daily inventiveness, where each citizen is invited to innovate in their methods of communication, information and existence. This framework questions dogmas and cultural boundaries.

These gatherings are aimed at all stakeholders who “think” and “live” the city in the post-digital era, whether they are administrators, architects, artists, researchers, economists, philosophers, policymakers, psychologists, sociologists, urban planners, or visionaries.

The term “HyperUrbain” examines the territorial transformations brought about by digital technologies from a multi- and transdisciplinary perspective.
