The objective of the Julie Everaert, through close collaboration with science researchers, is to examine the intrinsic ambivalences between the living and the artificial.<\/p>\n
This intellectual exploration aims to outline the contours of a possible symbiosis between nature and new technologies, thus challenging the obvious duality that characterizes them. The essence of her artistic practice lies in the exploration of these ambiguities through hybrid mimicry, transformed into visual poetry. The trajectory of the development of living things, with its key stages such as birth, reproduction, multiplication and proliferation, reveals a remarkable organization specific to each species. Residency project : Faviidae<\/i><\/strong><\/h6>\n
\n\n\nBiomimetic installation project, based on a particular species: Faviidae (family of scleractinian corals = hard corals). Small corals are modeled and then 3D printed with blue, green, and violet phosphorescent PLA filament (true colors of Faviidae). These 3D printed corals are placed on a support intended for hydroponic cultivation. These printed corals will charge throughout the day thanks to sunlight. At nightfall, spectators will be able to admire the phosphorescent effect.<\/p>\n
Beyond highlighting this particular bioluminescence capacity specific to this coral species, the artist wishes to emphasize an ecological aspect: coral bleaching, which is a phenomenon of coral decline. It results in discoloration of the animal (and the reef) due to loss of pigmentation.<\/p>\n
Hydroponics is the cultivation of plants on a neutral substrate irrigated with a current that provides mineral salts and essential nutrients to the plant. The Faviidae project presents a kind of revisited hydroponic system that brings these new hybrid forms of artificial corals to life through sound signals. It will also work on recordings of electronic machine noises.<\/p>\n
A small speaker will be placed inside the installation and digitized and modified sounds, somewhat robotic, like screams, will come out of the artificial corals to emphasize the phenomenon of decline.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
