Since childhood, Morocco has always held a special place in Fred Chemama’s heart, where he also pursued a portion of his studies. Following the devastating earthquake that caused havoc, destruction, and the tragic loss of thousands of lives, the artist desired to reconnect with this country he deeply cherishes and offer support as humbly as his skills and resources allow.<\/p>\n

“I felt an involuntary uprooting of these populations that resonates with me as someone who has experienced displacement myself.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He contemplated offering his services as a driver to relocate people or objects across the country, contribute to meal preparation and distribution, and assist local organizations or associations, depending on their needs and orientations. However, being aware of his limitations, he also considered offering support linked directly to his artistic practice.<\/p>\n

He has conceived a project aiming to create or recreate social bonds among displaced individuals in villages or neighborhoods they discovered following their forced migration due to the catastrophe of September 9th. This initial residency will allow him to develop this project further.<\/p>\n

The primary idea is to tangibly highlight – through the use of a real-time interactive video installation, the “F\u014dz machine” – couples, families, parents, and children in front of the facade of their “new home” or temporary living place. During these illuminations, the images of these individuals merge with the architecture of their new habitat.<\/p>\n

It’s a reflection on the living conditions of these individuals and the connections they hold with their land, particularly their home. He also aims to revisit the living spaces they left behind, capture another portrait, and gather their voices and images in front of these stigmatized, partially or entirely destroyed dwellings. This endeavor attempts to contribute to a process of healing through poetic and symbolic actions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It’s also a questioning of the role that art and artistic processes can play in the lives of those who generally don\u2019t have access to it. A challenge against the closed-off habits and insularity of this world, causing inaccessibility for those intentionally or unintentionally excluded from it.<\/p>\n

Photographe, vid\u00e9aste et artiste multim\u00e9dia, Fred Chemama alias \u772f\u814a (mira) est un artiste pluridisciplinaire qui a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 la r\u00e9alisation audiovisuelle \u00e0 l\u2019ESRA Maroc et la photographie en France. Il vit et travaille aujourd\u2019hui entre la Belgique, la France et ses voyages qui le m\u00e8nent \u00e0 la rencontre d\u2019autres artistes et structures culturelles en Europe et ailleurs.<\/p>\n

En derni\u00e8re ann\u00e9e de son cursus scolaire, il part au Mexique pour r\u00e9aliser une s\u00e9rie de portraits sous-marins de p\u00eacheurs de l\u2019\u00e9tat de Oaxaca, avec une chambre de reportage et un caisson \u00e9tanche original. Ces portraits sont aujourd\u2019hui immerg\u00e9s dans des caissons lumineux o\u00f9 ils se d\u00e9composent dans l\u2019eau, depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es. Il r\u00e9alise au fil des ann\u00e9es plusieurs projets d\u2019autoportraits en pose longue.<\/p>\n

L\u2019action, la rencontre et la mise en ab\u00eeme des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de capture de l\u2019image tir\u00e9e du r\u00e9el, sont au centre de sa d\u00e9marche. Ce qui l’am\u00e8ne notamment \u00e0 adopter une posture parfois iconoclaste et \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser des installations \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res in-situ \u00e0 l\u2019aide de rubans encreurs usag\u00e9s issus de concessions de photos-souvenirs.<\/p>\n

L\u2019action pr\u00e9m\u00e9dit\u00e9e, effectu\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs et l\u2019exploration des divers processus de production d\u2019images \u201ctir\u00e9es du r\u00e9el\u201d, sont au centre de sa d\u00e9marche initiale, ce qui tend d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 mettre en doute l\u2019autorit\u00e9 de l\u2019image photographique en tant que vecteur d\u2019information et \u00e0 en faire ce qu\u2019il ressent vraiment : un pr\u00e9texte \u00e0 la r\u00e9union po\u00e9tique des personnes.<\/p>\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, \u772f\u814a continue de mener des exp\u00e9riences \u00e0 la lisi\u00e8re de la photographie, de la vid\u00e9o et des arts num\u00e9riques ; d\u2019explorer les domaines du corps, de la lumi\u00e8re, du mouvement, de la situation et du lieu dans une d\u00e9marche li\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019action corporelle.<\/p>\n

Ces derniers projet d’installations interactives (“cyclo-kino”, le “Gestographe”, la “F\u014dz machine”…) m\u00ealent les disciplines, les m\u00e9diums et les transcendent dans des dispositifs ludiques et intriguants.<\/p>\n
