The exhibits will be installed at sites that help to highlight the natural surroundings.<\/p>\n Artistic remuneration: amount of \u20ac8,000 (including design, transport of materials, production, installation and dismantling of the work, travel, catering and accommodation of the selected artists).<\/p>\n The originality of this event is that it features highly original plastic artworks of an ephemeral nature, created specifically for the Massif du Sancy. Each artist takes inspiration from the site to design a piece that specifically fits the region. This aspect is just as important as the artwork itself.<\/p>\n The aim of the event is to<\/strong><\/p>\n Target audience<\/strong><\/p>\n Installation sites<\/strong><\/p>\n Natural sites<\/p>\n The sites are made available for the duration of the event. These may be private or municipal properties, with or without the presence of the owner\/farmer. They consist mostly of farmland devoted to summer grazing with the presence of cattle, sheep or horses, or to crops that are cut during the season. It is therefore essential to take such constraints into account, which may mean avoiding disruption to local activity, protecting artworks with fences that are suitable for the animals concerned, or installing the exhibit at the spot where it will have the least impact on the farming activity. In order to best accommodate all of these considerations, a meeting is organised ahead of the installation period to discuss these points in detail and take decisions that comply with the needs of all concerned.<\/p>\n In terms of access times, the natural artwork exhibition sites remain open to the public non-stop on a 24\/7 basis. The sites are freely accessible and are not supervised. Most sites are out in the countryside and have no power supply. The Sancy Tourist Office is responsible for community events.<\/p>\n Public partners<\/strong><\/p>\n Private partners<\/strong><\/p>\n Located within the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park in the heart of Auvergne, the Massif du Sancy region (in the department of Puy-de-D\u00f4me) has a strong geological, human and touristic identity. The Puy de Sancy (1,886m), the highest point in the Massif Central, towers over this vast natural region full of springs and sources, waterfalls, lakes and rivers.<\/p>\n Born from intense volcanic activity, this mid-altitude region has successfully showcased its water resources and mountainous contours through the development of spa centres and ski resorts. Up until the 18th century, people had no idea where volcanoes came from, although it was frequent to give them names that conjured hellish images of fire and flames, like \u201cChemin\u00e9e du Diable\u201d (Devil\u2019s Chimney) and \u201cVal d\u2019Enfer\u201d (Hell Valley).<\/p>\n The entire area is rich in sediments and minerals that were exploited by mountain dwellers very early on. They built houses from heavy lava stone and covered their roofs with stone slates (phonolite rock, from phonolite lava).<\/p>\n Here in this unspoilt region is where the Dordogne River takes its source, 1,350 metres above sea level. The Sancy massif is home to multiple wildlife species typically found in mid-mountain areas, including mouflons, chamois, marmottes, stoats and martens, not forgetting the Arctic char and signal crayfish found in Pavin Lake.<\/p>\n The entire mountain range is festooned with flowers: Martagon lily, yellow gentian (used to make spirits), wild pansy, narcissus and even a few carnivorous plants like the drosera and butterworts that grow in the peat bogs.<\/p>\n Climate<\/strong><\/p>\n The climate can be harsh at times in the Sancy mountains, because of the altitude influence. Winters are long and cold. Snow frequently arrives in November and continues to fall until mid spring (May). The summer season is short and can bring heavy rain.<\/p>\n This mid-mountain geographical zone is the continent\u2019s first natural barrier from the Atlantic Ocean in the West, which explains the strong winds and heavy rainfall.
